DC Comics kicked off its celebration of Superman’s 75th anniversary today with the release a brand new logo it’s going to be attaching to its covers in the coming months, along with an announcement of a new animated short looking back at the iconic character’s history.

Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is producing the animated retrospective, of which fans will get a sneak preview at San Diego Comic-Con in July. The full short will debut later in the summer.

The new logo will make its first appearance on a DC comic book with Scott Snyder and Jim Lee’s “Superman Unchained” #1, which hits stands June 12 and has variant covers spanning the various eras of Superman comics.

DC’s release lists several other Superman-related media items released this year, including the video game “Injustice: Gods Among Us,” the animated feature “Superman: Unbound” and the “DC Nation” Superman shorts on Cartoon Network.

The release also quotes Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov, DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson and “Man of Steel” director Snyder, who said:

It’s a great honor for all of us involved in “Man of Steel” to carry on the tradition of Superman for longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers. I’m so excited to share the movie with them and to be a part of this celebration.

Not mentioned at all in the release are Superman’s creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
