Steven Spielberg Launches ‘Halo’ Television Series

During Microsoft’s Xbox Livestream announcement of its new XBox One system, Steven Spielberg was onhand (er, on video screen) to reveal his involvement with a live-action “Halo” TV series.

Spielberg discussed his gamer cred, explaining that he’s been playing games since pong and has always appreciated the exceedingly sophisticated and immersive storytelling afforded by games. He went on to say that the “Halo” provides amazing opportunities to “be at the intersection” of narrative and interactivity, or in Spielberg’s words, “where technology and mythmaking meet to produce something really groundbreaking.” Adding:

I’m incredibly excited about the great journey we’re all on, the hero’s worlds, and wonders that ’Halo’ will take us on.

We don’t much else yet. Is Spielberg directing or just producing? I would assume the latter, but maybe he can find time is his schedule for the former. Also is this airing only on XBox Live? Or will air elsewhere? Will it be on a network? Cable? It’s called a “premium television series.” So I gather it means XBox Live exclusive, followed by home video release.

Also, also, does this mean the perpetually in development hell “Halo” movie is gone? I’d say so. For now.
