In a cryptic teaser released Monday morning, BOOM! announced "RoboCop: Last Stand," a new series coming in August in which Frank Miller will once again return to chronicle the exploits of Alex Murphy and OCP.
The "visual press release" is nothing more than a mostly black, poster-style image that displayed the logo for the new series along with the names of the attached creators: Miller, Steven Grant, Korkut Oztekin, and Declan Shalvey.
Miller famously wrote a draft of the screenplay for 1990's "RoboCop 2," very little of which was actually used in the finished movie. That screenplay was adapted into Avatar Press' "Frank Miller's RoboCop" series, which ran from 2003 to 2006. For that series, Grant adapted Miller's script into comics form while Miller oversaw the process.
Miller also co-wrote the screenplay for "RoboCop 3."
So what's the division of duties for "Last Stand"? Unless Miller had any other RoboCop screenplays sitting around for Grant to adapt, this must be new material, possibly plotted by Miller and scripted by Grant. Miller doesn't appear to have anything to do with the RoboCop remake scheduled for release next year; his name is not among the four credited screenwriters.
The advertised artists, ÷ztekin and Shalvey, have considerably different styles, so it will be interesting to see how they work together as well.
