Did You Catch The ‘Lost’ Easter Egg On ‘Bates Motel’ Last Night?

Along with Damon Lindelof (and J.J. Abrams in the beginning), Carlton Cuse helped shepherdLost” into television history by creating a rich, frustrating mythology loaded with juicy nuggets, red herrings, in-jokes, and subtle clues that viewers thought might unlock the ultimate secrets of that magical island and its lost inhabitants. As it turned out, none of it meant anything because FRIENDSHIP was all that mattered or whatever, but that’s not the point.

The point is, Carlton Cuse has moved on from tropical settings and giant smoke monsters, to the Pacific Northwest and small, teenage, future (misunderstood) monsters with his new series “Bates Motel.” Now, “Bates” has bupkis to do with “Lost” but it appears that didn’t stop Cuse from layering in at least one little easter egg in the show to get Losties foaming at the mouth.

If you look closely at the bar at around 17:25 in last night’s episode, “A Boy and His Dog,” you’ll see Dylan’s untrustworthy co-worker (not sure what his name is!) has ordered himself a Dharma Beer! Sure, it’s not the classic Dharma Beer label that we’re used to seeing Sawyer guzzle despite being warm as Hell and like 30 years old, but it’s still cool. I guess they’re still in business.

Now this makes me wonder, what else has been hidden in “Bates Motel” by that wily Carlton Cuse? Have you guys seen anything? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter.

And is Norman Bates really…the Man in Black?!
