May The 4th Be With You: The 10 Best 'Star Wars' Comics

By Jorge Solis

May 4th is not only Star Wars Day, it's also Free Comic Book Day! With these two nerd holidays put together, what better way to celebrate than by reading some of the best "Star Wars" comics out there! Dark Horse Comics has provided readers with its own collection of stories that explores the "Star Wars" Universe! Check out the top ten "Star Wars" comics that Dark Horse has to offer.

10. "Star Wars Tales: Vol. 6"

In the "Star Wars" Universe, readers can always count on timeless adventures of heroism and tragedy. You will either learn life-affirming lessons from The Jedi or take a darker path with the ways of the Sith.

9. "Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron Vol.1"

You know who was the real hero of "Return of the Jedi"? That's right, it was Wedge Antilles, the guy who destroyed the second Death Star! When you have a dangerous mission, you can always count on Wedge and his league of starfighters.

8. "Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy"

Based on the best-selling novels by Timothy Zahn, this storyline takes place after the Fall of the Empire. The Stormtroopers are now the rebels in the New Republic. Admiral Thrawn, the last of the Emperor's warlords, intends to destroy what Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker have started. I hope director J.J. Abrams takes a look at this trilogy before making the new "Star Wars" movies!

7. "Star Wars Omnibus: Boba Fett"

Boba Fett is one of my favorite characters in the "Star Wars" universe. So there's nothing better for me than an entire collection of tales starring the most feared bounty hunter.

6. "Star Wars Omnibus: Droids and Ewoks"

How can you not have a "Star Wars" story without C-3PO and R2D2? It's just not fun without them bickering back and forth. While you're at it, take another adventure with the furry Ewoks on the planet Endor.

5. "Star Wars: Darth Maul - Death Sentence"

Without a doubt, the best part of "The Phantom Menace" was when Darth Maul fought to the death against Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now, Darth Maul has returned from the dead with vengeance on his mind. Darth Maul takes on the galaxy in a nonstop bloody rampage!

4. "Star Wars: Dark Times - Fire Carrier"

There is just no stopping Darth Vader as he continues to wipe out the Jedi. Now a Jedi Master is on the run with a group of young padawans. Trapped in an Imperial-run planet, how long do they have before Vader finds them?

3. "Star Wars: Purge "

At the end of "Revenge of the Sith," viewers caught a glimpse of Anakin Skywalker taking down the padawans. Now as Darth Vader, we get to see him continue exterminating the rest of the Jedi. Anyone who has survived Vader's Order 66, they are truly in a world of hurting.

2. "Star Wars: Darth Vader And The Ghost Prison"

With Emperor Palpatine close to death, Darth Vader is actually thinking about where his loyalties lie. With the Empire and the Emperor both lost causes, Darth Vader believes there is a future for himself at the mysterious Ghost Prison. It's definitely a different take on Darth Vader, who is playing his own mind-trick.

1. "Star Wars: Blood Ties Vol.2 - Boba Fett Is Dead"

This is one of those times where the title doesn't lie! Boba Fett, the galaxy's most-feared bounty hunter, is actually dead! How the hell does this happen to a tough guy like him? Fett was swallowed up in the sarlacc pit and fought his way out!
