Long Haired Ghosts Comin' At Ya As 'Sadako 3D' Is Dated For The U.S.

And apparently she's not alone in this sequel to the horror movie "Ringu" coming to DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD in June from Wellgo USA.

Sadako's gone viral in this new film from "High School Debut" and "Handsome Suit" director Tsutomu Hanabusa. Based on the trailer, it doesn't look like Kadokawa Pictures is pumping a lot of money into the franchise anymore (the first film had two largely effective and well-produced sequels, if I recall), and this one is squarely teen-centric with high school students committing suicide after watching a haunted video. Maybe.

From the official synopsis:

Sadako waits, a vicious spirit, hungry for blood and souls. What began as a haunted videotape, passed from hand to cursed hand all those years ago in THE RING, has only gotten easier to find. Sadako waits. And it’s not just on tape anymore. At a local high school, there is a rumor about an online video of someone committing suicide. If it were only a prank, or the work of a deranged artist in town, the students wouldn’t be killing themselves after watching it, would they? The police would have a theory about the quickly-growing body count? And what about the woman in white with long hair? Sadako is always hungry. And she’s no longer alone.

It's been 15 years since Hideo Nakata's first "Ringu" (aka "The Ring") movie hit Japanese screens and the recent "Sadako 3D" is sort of a commemoration of that horror anniversary. Novelist Koji Suzuki's vengeful spirit was largely responsible for pushing J-horror abroad with a shock of black, lanky hair and quiet menace, kicking off a wave of similarly-themed films at home in Japan as well as remakes here in the U.S. (I'll cop to preferring Gore Verbinski's "The Ring" to Nakata's "Ringu").

WellGo is bringing "Sadako 3D" to the U.S. on June 4th on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD.
