Game of Thrones vs. The Walking Dead: Who Will Win The Ratings War?

By Jorge Solis

Mark your calendars, because March 31st is going to be a very special event. Viewers have the season premiere of “Game of Thrones” and the season finale of “The Walking Dead” running at the same time. As both series compete in the ratings war for number one, which show will you end up watching?

The battle between Rick’s prison and the Governor’s Woodbury has been building to a climax. During the much anticipated episode, “Arrow In The Doorpost,” the Governor (David Morrissey) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) finally had their face-to-face meeting. The purpose of this peace treaty was really for the Governor to pick out the weakest points of his enemy. Using baby Judith and Shane to his advantage, the Governor knew more about Rick because of Andrea. There is a reason why the Governor brought in the whiskey. He wanted to see how much pressure Rick can take before he finally takes a sip. When Rick drank from his cup, the Governor knew he had Rick right where he wants him.

Because the Governor found a way to sneak into his mind, Rick ended up thinking about giving up Michonne (Danai Gurira). Everything has been building to a war and there is promise of a lot of action in the last remaining episodes. How is this season going to end? What’s going to be the cliffhanger, the very last shot, that fans will be talking about before season four begins? There’s already a built-in audience here, so I doubt the TWD fans will jump ship at the last second.

While one show is ending, another series is about to begin. Each season of “Game of Thrones” has been a great adaptation of one of George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy books. Season three will have fire-breathing dragons, sex, and acts of betrayal. I’m looking forward to seeing Peter Dinklage’s performance as Tyrion Lannister. Viewers are definitely going to have an entertaining hour of television. How can you say “no” to this show?
Both shows ended up having zombies as well. You have the walkers surrounding the prison. The White Walkers showed up during the season two cliffhanger of “Valar Morghulis.” With the dragons flying around, danger is coming from the air above. And with the White Walkers, this is an army of the undead heading down the snowy mountain.

Thank goodness for repeats. Viewers will have the season finale of “The Walking Dead,” then the “Talking Dead” afterwards. Fans of “Game of Thrones” know their show is going to be repeated back-to-back on HBO. Though the shows are different for each fan base, it’s still tough to ask viewers to choose between their favorite programming. But in the end, “Game of Thrones” will continue after “The Walking Dead” is on hiatus.
In the ratings war, which show will you choose to watch? Are you going to pick “The Walking Dead” over “Game of Thrones?” Or, will it be the other way around?
The season premiere of “Game of Thrones” and the season finale of “The Walking Dead” both air on March 31st at 9pm.
