I was traveling this week, and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get to my local comic shop before my flight on Wednesday. My pull list was pretty short, so I decided to do something I haven’t done before: I went completely digital with my comics!
I’m a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to my reading material. I revel in the joys of the analog more than I enjoy the convenience of the digital. But I do a fair amount of traveling and my iPad is a lot easier to carry around with me than a stack of comics or a couple trades. That said, in my carry-on was my iPad, one trade, and two paperbacks (a fiction and a non-fiction). So much for traveling light.
While sitting at the gate, I took advantage of the wifi and bought my comics through Comixology. I scrolled through the options for the week and poked at the book I wanted (this is how you end up buying the Female Force: Julia Child comic for $1.99).
Digital comics are wicked convenient. Like, unless they find a way to download comics directly into our brains, I don’t think they could be more convenient. But I don’t have to turn my comics off during take off and landing, like I do with my iPad. And the whole reading experience is different. I spent most of the time doing the guided reading panel to panel thingy. Which is… different. Not bad different, just different-different. And I felt like I was cheating on my local shop. I don’t know, I like what I like. And I wasn’t digging the digital thing.
Anyway. On to the Best Stuff!!
I just love this book. Young Cyclops is just so wonderful and sad that I just adore reading him. And Professor Kitty is the sassiest. This book just pushes oh so many of the right buttons for me. I love it to pieces.
I’ve been a big fan on Dan Slott on Spider-Man for a while now, and holy cats is that Ryan Stegman art gorgeous! So I really liked the first two issues, but this week’s issue really cemented things for me. There was the right amount of Ghost Peter; Doc Ock was just brilliant, and Carlie–for the first time since she’s been introduced–was a smart, sharp, awesome lady. Good things all around!
This book is about Misty Knight and Valkyrie kicking viking zombie ass. If that doesn’t sound like your kind of thing, this probably isn’t the comic for you. But if it does sound like you jam, you will totally dig this issue. I love that it’s all ladies too.
