From the files of "This Almost Happened To Us":
Did you know there was almost a live-action "Hong Kong Phooey" movie starring the voice of Eddie Murphy and directed by Alex Zamm, the fella behind the Carrot Top vehicle "Chairman of the Board" and the Larry the Cable Guy-starrer "Tooth Fairy 2"? Me neither. But there was. And based on this proof-of-concept video recently unleashed upon Vimeo, it would've stood on the shoulders of other glorious live-action/animated hybrid films featuring dead-eyed animals doing dead-brained things while confused actual actors heart-achingly reprimand tennis ball stand-ins by shouting the titular dead-eyed, dead-brained characters' names. Yes, films like "The Smurfs," "Marmaduke" and "Garfield: I Still Hate Mondays Or Whatever We're Calling This Sequel Or Is This The One That We Call Squeakuel? I Don't Know, Did The Check Clear Yet?"
But that's not all!
There's also a live-action "Marvin the Martian" short coupled with "Phooey." Neither film made it very far into production, but if either of these hunks of footage get the buzz machines all revved up, we might just be in for a pair of dead-eyed treats!
So, let's slip these into the files of "Could Still Happen To Us" because ya just never know.
Fine...I'll admit it, that Hong Kong Phooey guy looks kinda adorable.
