Holy classic action figures, Batman! The most recent issue of "License! Global" (via Coming Soon) confirms that a toy line based on the late 1960's "Batman" television show, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, will be making its way to collectors' shelves in 2013.
The "Batman" TV series originally aired on ABC from 1966 to 1968. Since then, legal complications have left fans of the series with little hope that it would ever see the light of day as a DVD release. However, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. apparently struck a deal earlier this year regarding licensing for the show. News that an official toy line is on the way, only makes us more hopeful.
Details on the Mattel toy line are pretty non-existent thus far, but there's a good chance we'll be seeing some classic Batman villains such as The Riddler, Penguin and perhaps even Catwoman making an appearance. Of course, Adam West's Batman and Burt Ward's Robin will be the stars of the new line.
The magazine goes on to reveal that Mattel will continue the "DC Super Friends" line, as well as introduce a new line for 2014 based on the upcoming "Beware the Batman". In addition, DC's adult collector line will continue their "evergreen" Batman figures in a line called "Power Attack" and the upcoming "Man of Steel" is also likely to get a tie-in.
