"The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" from the My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, his co-writer Shaun Simon and artist Becky Cloonan was first announced in 2009 to coincide with the release of the band's futuristic, sci-fi concept album "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys." Well, now the comic is finally upon us as Dark Horse is set to release the first issue on June 6.
Way actually based the album on the comic and not the other way around so fans of both My Chemical Romance and of Way's previous Dark Horse series "The Umbrella Academy" will hopefully find a lot to dig with "Killjoys."
From the official press release:
“The original idea for the comic informed the record,” said Gerard Way. “The record helped refine the idea, and then Becky had done a drawing of the Girl for the single ‘The Only Hope for Me Is You’ and I saw it and thought, this is the comic. It’s basically the last video, it’s the last part of the Killjoys story, while at the same time being totally its own thing.”
You'll get your first look as part of Dark Horse's Free Comic Book Day 2013 offerings, then the first issue hits on June 6, 2013.
Also, in case you didn't know, comics icon Grant Morrison starred as the villain in two My Chemical Romance music videos based on the story from "Killjoys," "Na Na Na" and "Sing."
