Winter Is Coming To Your Liquor Store With 'Game of Thrones'-Inspired Beer

Brewery Ommengang from Cooperstown N.Y., makers of such glorious Belgian beverages as Three Philosophers and Abbey Ale is teaming with HBO's "Game of Thrones" to create a series of beers inspired by the sex and sword and war and dragon-centric show.

The first brew of the bunch, the Lannister-inspired Iron Throne Blonde Ale will be available in March just in time for the "Thrones'" season 3 premiere. In a chat with BeerPulse.com, Ommegang brewmaster, Phil Leinhart called the Iron Throne Blonde:

...a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops. It is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, but it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.

New beers will be released to coincide with different aspects of the show, but wisely Ommegang isn't getting ahead of itself, saying:

Since we are brewing beers based on specific themes and characters in the show, we will have to wait and see what happens this season before we begin to craft the next ale. Two additional beers will be released in conjunction with each following season of Game of Thrones.

The Iron Throne Blonde Ale from Ommengang will be available nationally in March 2013 on draft an in 750ml bottles. More beers will follow.
