White House Petitioned For Real-Life 'Death Star'

A petition has been posted to the White House's website asking for a Star Wars-style Death Star to be built:

"By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense."

The target date for funding and the beginning of construction of said Death Star would begin by 2016, according to the petition. At the time of this writing, more than 600 people have digitally signed the petition. In order for the proposal to get a response, it needs to garner at least 25,000 signatures by December 14, 2012.

And then there's the whole matter of licensing the Death Star out from Disney...
