On November 30, makeup FX master Rick Baker will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Baker will also be entered into The Guinness World Records Book for most Oscar nominations and wins or Best Achievement in Makeup. He received 12 nominations and won 7 times for "An American Werewolf in London" (probably his most famous work), "Harry and the Hendersons," "Ed Wood," "The Nutty Professor," "Men in Black," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "The Wolfman."
On "The Walk," Baker joins fellow genre makeup legends Stan Winston and John Chambers--who was recently portrayed by John Goodman in "Argo"--and is best known for his iconic "Planet of the Apes" makeup.
The ceremony takes place on November 30, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. and will be livestreamed on www.walkoffame.com. "Men in Black" director Barry Sonnenfeld will be the guest speaker.
In addition to "An American Werewolf in London," Baker is probably most famous for his work on the John Landis-directed video for Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
A few months ago we discussed one of Baker's earliest gigs, creating aliens for a "Star Wars" spoof on the short-lived "Rich Pryor Show." For fans of makeup FX and genre entertainment it's an interesting bit of trivia and I recommend you check it out...and no just just because I wrote the post! Okay...it's totally because I write the post. But it's still cool!
Also, we're just getting word that after the ceremony, Baker will promptly transform into a wolf and eat everyone there. So tune in for that.
