Move over NFL Superpro, a new sports-based superhero is in town: BrooklyKnight, the defender of the Brooklyn Nets. The brainchild of the Nets and Marvel Custom Publishing, BrooklyKnight made his first appearance Saturday night at the Brooklyn Nets’ first-ever regular season game in their new home, Barclays Center.
Said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief of Marvel Comics:
"As a Brooklynite and a hardcore hoops fan, for me to get the opportunity to help create a Super Hero for my home borough's new team was a dream come true. Working with the Nets staff, we have created a team Super Hero that is unlike anything the NBA has ever seen; a timeless character who can stand shoulder to shoulder with icons like Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, and Thor. Let's go, Nets!"
The BrooklyKnight will be appearing in person at all Brooklyn Nets home games at Barclay Center: his special defenses against do-badders include "a protective metal B on his chest, metal knee, elbow, and face coverings, defined muscles, including a six-pack, and a multi-functional cape." There is also a special comic called "BrooklyKnight" #1, written by Jason Aaron ("Wolverine & The X-Men") and illustrated Mike Deodato ("Amazing Spider-Man"), that was given away at the Saturday Nets show.
We've had football, hockey, and now basketball superheroes...can curling be far behind?
