Magnet Releasing has just announced that the release dates for the film adaptation of David Wong's horror-comedy novel. The film, from Phantasm director Don Coscarelli will be hitting Magnet's On-Demand VOD service on December 27th with a theatrical release to follow starting January 25th.
And they brought along a new trailer that pushes the comedy.
The first trailer was grimmer and a bit darker than the one here, which shows tantalizing glimpses of some of the major plot points from the novel along with a few of the deviations made in the name of adaptation. I'm actually quite partial to the source material, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how the director behind Bubba Ho-Tep is able to spin it into something cinematic.
Here's the official synopsis:
In JOHN DIES AT THE END, it¹s all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes)and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No.No, they can't.
