NYCC 2012: Groot! 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Returns Under Brian Michael Bendis In 2013!

Bendis. McNiven. Iron Man. Rockey Racoon. During New York Comic Con, Marvel announced the new creative team for a new ongoing Guardians of the Galaxy series beginning with its first issue in March preceded by a 0 issue in February.

According to the release below, the team's lineup will mostly remain the same as it was under Abnett and Lanning during their massively successful resurrection of the book. But along with Starlord, Gamora, Drax, and Rocket Raccoon, we can look forward to Iron Man to be a part of the team.

What's the dealie? We don't know. But Bendis hasn't done a lot of cosmic comics in the past, so it'll be interesting to see him and Civil War and Old Man Logan artist take up the challenge. The characters have already gotten a visual overhaul with the more jointed, armored look of much of the Marvel U replacing their blue uniforms from the Abnett/Lanning era. Their new gear gives the team more of a Mass Effect vibe.

From Marvel:

When the Earth is threatened, you call the Avengers—but when entire universe is at stake, there’s only one team for the job… …they are the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! Starlord! Groot! Rocket Raccoon! Drax! Gamora! Iron Man?! That’s right folks, the Armored Avenger is joining the Universe’s Mightiest Heroes to tackle the threats too big for the Avengers! But just what threat would require the help of Tony Stark? That’s the question Brian Michael Bendis, , and Steve McNiven plan to answer. What do you get when you combine the man who redefined the Avengers for an entire generation and one of the greatest comic book artists of our time? You get an all-new ongoing series featuring the team starring in Marvel Studios’ next major super hero franchise! With a new mission and a new lineup you’ll only see in comics, the Guardians of the Galaxy head in an exciting new direction with only one goal in mind—SAVE THE UNIVERSE.
