EXCLUSIVE: Actor Steven Bauer On Lycanthrope Hunting In 'Werewolf: The Beast Among Us'

The Golden Globe-winning "Scarface" actor and recent "Breaking Bad<" heavy talks about his role as Hyde, a one-eyed werewolf hunter in director Louis Morneau ("Joy Ride II," "Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting") action-horror film, "Werewolf: The Beast Among Us" as the DVD and Blu-ray hit this week.

Bonus! After the jump, Bauer answers a couple of our questions about fighting with an eyepatch as well as his own horror movie memories.

MTV Geek: What can you tell us about your role as Hyde in Werewolf: The Beast Among Us?

Steven Bauer: Hyde is a werewolf hunter with a sense of humor, and loves telling tall tales about his past exploits.

Geek: What does Hyde bring to the table in this group of badass werewolf hunters?

Bauer: He’s fearless and determined to kick the werewolf’s ass!

Geek: What attracted you to the role?

Bauer: The opportunity to play a fun character with a cool costume, and to work in an exotic country like Romania.

Geek: Tell us a little about acting under an eye patch—any challenges dealing with some of the film’s action with the loss of depth perception?

Bauer: Acting with the eye patch was challenging... at least once a day I regretted my decision to use the eye patch. Especially when getting on the horse!

Geek: Could you tell us a little about Hyde’s relationship with his partner, Fang?

Bauer: Fang is Hyde’s loyal companion and always there to support him, and absolutely fearless in combat.

Geek: You don’t have a whole lot of special effects-heavy movies like this on your resume—how was it different from some of the other films you’ve been involved with?

Bauer: It is different because you have to often use your imagination that you’re interacting with something that is physically not in front of you because it will be added later…

Geek: To what extent have you ever really been much of a horror guy?

Bauer: I am fan of psychological and psychic horror films.

Geek: What was your first monster movie? Maybe a creature feature or one on TV that always stuck with you?

Bauer: As a little boy, the original "Wolfman" starring Lon Chaney Jr., "The Exorcist," and Ridley Scott’s "Alien."

Geek: What else do you have coming up?

Bauer: I have a movie with Andy Garcia, Forest Whitaker, and Eva Longoria titled "The Truth," and will be part of the ensemble of Showtime’s new drama series "Ray Donovan" also starring Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, Elliot Gould, Pooch Hall, and others… follow me on twitter for more updates at @thestevenbauer.

"Werewolf: The Beast Among Us" will be available on DVD and Blu-ray October 9th.
