We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: the best part of a big convention like New York Comic Con is the nooks and crannies, the panels and events that are seldom attended, but provide a look at a life beyond your big comic book announcements and TV clip reels. Here’s your schedule for the weirdest, most interesting panels at NYCC 2012:
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12TH
11:00am-12:00pm: ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER – FIRST LOOK AT THE ANIMATED GRAPHIC NOVEL
Either this totally missed the boat after the movie tanked, or it’s so good it’ll elevate the whole property. Also, fingers crossed, it’ll provide the bridge between AL:VH and Daniel Day Lewis’ sequel. That’s a sequel, right? Right.
11:00am-12:00pm: APPLE KISSA PARTY TIME
There’s a bunch of these throughout the weekend, so if having a sing-along at a maid café is your jam, go forth and have fun.
3:00pm-8:00pm: HOW TO PLAY QUIDDITCH 101
We actually got to announce for the International Quidditch Finals last year and had a blast doing it. This combo of rugby and magic is a ton of fun, so take some time away from the Con floor and get some nerdy exercise.
5:00pm-5:45pm: THE LAW OF SUPERHEROES
The gang behind the popular “Law and the Multiverse” website hit the stage to talk the real world ramifications of super powered insanity.
9:00pm-10:00pm: KIRK HAMMETT, LEAD GUITARIST FOR METALLICA, TALKS TO KEVIN CLEMENT ABOUT HIS PASSION FOR COLLECTING MONSTER MOVIE MEMORABILIA
Anyone know what this panel is about?
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13TH
12:15pm-1:15pm: WEIGHT HACKING: A HOW-TO GUIDE FOR GEEKS WHO WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT
As much as we desperately want to make fun of this, it’s actually a pretty on-point panel to have at a Comic Con, and hopefully, whatever system they propose that involves losing weight while playing video games and writing fan-fic works.
4:00pm-5:00pm: GAY MARRIAGE IN COMICS: REVOLUTIONARY OR A STEP BACKWARDS?
…And there’s your most provocative panel title of NYCC. Phil Jimenez, Dan Parent and more discuss Northstar’s marriage, and whether it’s good, bad, or a third thing.
8:00pm-10:00pm: TRAPPED IN A CLOSET SING-ALONG
It’s not just a sing-along, there’s a cast performing the R. Kelly epic in front of the screen, “Rocky Horror” style. Cool?
