The Wait Is Over: iPhone 5 Arrives Today!

Today the iPhone 5 went up for sale across the country, but long before Apple, Verizon and AT&T stores opened their doors, eager fans lined the sidewalks for what's become something of an annual event. With over 2 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours, it's clear that no one could get their hands on Apple's latest hardware soon enough.

At 8am this morning, eager customers, some who had been in lines with up to 200 other people, cheered as the doors swung open and retailers began selling the the iPhone 5. However, fans in the US weren't the only ones waiting to get Apple's new, lighter and thinner smartphone.

Shoppers lined up outside of Apple stores and other retailers around the world – Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Munich and countless other cities – to be among the first to get their hands on Apple's iPhone 5.

Here in the States the most diehard Apple fans had been waiting outside of Apple's flagship store on New York's Fifth Avenue since Monday.

Announced on September 12th, the iPhone 5 sports an all-new design, with a lighter, thinner chassis, bigger 4” screen, faster processor, a nicer camera and the much touted iOS 6. But things have only just begun for Apple's newest device. The iPhone 5 will be released in 22 more countries come September 28th and analysts predict they will ship as many as 10 million by the end of September.
