We already knew iPhone 5 pre-orders were through the roof, but today Apple revealed some actual numbers. Turns out 2 million of the recently revealed phones were pre-ordered in the first 24 hours, double the amount of pre-orders the iPhone 4S saw last year.
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
Though Apple surely knew the iPhone 5 would be a hot seller, they apparently weren’t thinking big enough. The company’s initial supply can’t meet the overwhelming demand and as such, some orders won’t be making it customers until October, Apple said in a statement. Thankfully, most orders will be delivered on September 21st, as originally planned.
