Copper pipes, gauges, goggles, top hats, and corsets could be seen surfacing amongst the sea of cosplayers at Dragon*Con 2012. Steampunk has really come into its own in the past few years, with new Etsy shops and Ebay stores cropping up everyday to offer the latest in gear-covered Nerf weaponry and hydraulic-powered teacups. “Hydraulic-powered teacups?” We really have to get some sleep! In the meantime, here’s a gallery of costumes for your skull-meat to enjoy!
Quicksilver, Dr. Bruce Banner, The Wasp, make up a few of the Steampunk Avengers, joined here by either Captain Britain or Union Jack–you decide! One thing we do know: Wasp’s wings are pure genius!
A second set of Steampunk Avengers consists of Spider-Man, Thor, Hawkeye, and Valkyrie. Hawkeye’s magnifying lenses on the mask are great, as is Peter Parker’s hat. No reasoning behind that, it just is.
Now this, THIS is steampunk! Badassery abounds with the arm and leg attachments that have been detailed perfectly to give the appearance of steam-assisted extremities. Also, this costume shows off just how well a nicely painted Nerf weapon can look.
These two gentlemen look to be on their way to hunt zombies, werewolves, trolls, or any number of plights to civilized mankind. Because well-tailored clothing shouldn’t hinder an adventure!
Here are some of Gotham’s Rogues as envisioned by these dedicated cosplayers. Scarecrow is obviously on the right, and Poison Ivy is present, but who are the other two? We’re guessing Deadshot and the Riddler, or maybe the Mad Hatter. The top hat is too confusing!
We admit to having no idea if these two are basing their cosplay on existing characters, but the time-related dress and hour glass-staff are both very cool pieces that help tie the theme together.
“The family that cosplays together, stays together!”– or something like that.
Goggles? Check. Worn leather holster? Check. Cheeseburgers? Well, we’re pretty sure this steampunk Hamburglar will remedy that soon enough.
