There are a lot of electric skateboards out there, but a recent Kickstarter project may be the coolest version we've ever seen. Dubbed GnarBoard, these “gnarly electric skateboards” take local transportation to the next level, offering more speed, power and range than any to come before it. If you want to get an idea of just what we mean, check out this video of a GnarBoard drag racing a Corvette!
Pretty awesome, right? Sure, it may have only been a 75-foot race, but the fact that Joshua Tulberg (the creator) was even willing to try shows just how much confidence he has in his product, and he's not the only one. The GnarBoard Kickstarter campaign has already reached its funding goal of $15,000 and, as of this writing, there are still 11 days to go!
By this point you're probably wondering how you can get a GnarBoard of your own. Luckily, through the magic of Kickstarter its not that hard. You'll have three models to choose from – first is the standard-issue Commuter that will do 0-28 mph in just 3 seconds and scoot you down the sidewalk up to 21 miles on a single charge. The next option is The Road Warrior. It has more power, four-wheel drive and is slightly faster doing 0-28 mph in only 2.8 seconds. Of course, you pay for it by dropping a tiny bit of range do the added weight and power consumption, but it's totally worth it.
Finally, there's the gnarliest of the GnarBoards, The Trail Rider. Complete with stubby tires, foot bindings and four-wheel drive, this off-road menace will take your from 0-28 mph in under 2 seconds and tear up the trails like no other electric skateboard can.
If you want to learn all about the GnarBoard head over to the official Kickstarter page. I suggest you do it now as Joshua Tulberg has created something pretty amazing... Who would have thought going “green” could be so awesome?
