Marvel leads the new comics this week; with AVENGERS VS X-MEN #9, of course, but also some exciting new titles we have our eye on. First, there’s HAWKEYE #1 from Matt Fraction and David Aja, reuniting after their crack teaming on Iron Fist. And second, there’s FIRST X-MEN #1, which really should have been first if you think about it, telling the story of the X-Men before the X-Men were X-Men, and were just a bunch of dudes hanging out, wondering if maybe they should form a team or something. Christos Gage is writing that one, with art by Neal Adams, so it should be good.
Over at DC, the Publisher is wrapping things up, before flashing back next month with Zero issues, which means the set-up for Rotworld has begun. You can look for that in ANIMAL MAN #12 and SWAMP THING #12, both rock solid titles worth checking out. There’s also SWEET TOOTH #36, the beginning of the end for that title, so maybe don’t check it out right now, but do go back, pick up all of the trades, catch up, and then read next issue.
Over at Dark Horse, we’re dying to read the BEASTS OF BURDEN: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH one shot, because Jill Thompson and Evan Dorkin’s book about adorable puppies and cats investigating the supernatural has been one of the funniest, most terrifying, and simultaneously heart-breaking experiences we’ve had reading comics. That was probably every previous issue though, I’m sure this one will be super boring.
Other titles we want to snag include the delightful violent surgery horror comic HARVEST #1, the epically gut-wrenching penultimate BOYS #69, and because we’re old softies, LOVE AND CAPES: WHAT TO EXPECT #1. And that’s it! See you next week, slaverinos.
