“I’ve been in this business a long time and one of the great pleasures that I have is working with Andy,” legendary comics artist Joe Kubert said when we visited The Kubert School to discuss his work on Before Watchmen: Nite Owl. Kubert is inking the pencils of his son Andy Kubert, who is handling art duties on the J. Michael Straczynki-scripted prequel. Joe went on to say, “Andy is putting in the kind of work and effort into this particular character, that I’d like to see more of in this industry.” He added that he’s honored to work with his son, “to me that’s like putting the cherry on top of the whip cream.”

In our next clip, Andy explains how his father makes the art “his own,” even when he’s inking. “He’s got such a strong voice,” he said. Joe Kubert added, “Inking for me is a double-edged sword,” he said, “I’m not the kind of inker that goes over each line, I don’t copy the lines that are there, I can’t do that, I just cannot do that.”
