'Ultimate Spider-Man' Swings Into 2nd Season On Disney XD

It's guest-stars galore in the 2nd season of "Ultimate Spider-Man"

Get  ready for more of Peter Parker's  animated adventures -- a second season of "Ultimate Spider-Man" has just been ordered by Disney XD.

"We are very excited about the return of 'Ultimate Spider-Man' inside the Marvel Universe on Disney XD," said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television, in a press release. "With season two, the series introduces popular Marvel heroes and villains you've never seen before on the small screen. With more action, more excitement, more humor, this is the ultimate Spider-Man for fans of all ages."

Who will Spidey encounter in season two? The announcement promised such heavy-hitters as the Avengers and old-school villain the Lizard. If that sounds like it synchs rather nicely with the Marvel movie line-up this Spring and Summer...well, duh.

The news comes on the heels of word that "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" will not be renewed for a third season, being replaced by presumably the more synergy-friendly "Marvel's Avengers Assemble" in 2013. While there was some strong negative fan reaction against the cancellation of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes," it ultimately makes more sense for Marvel to rein in their animation tighter to what's going on in the films.

New episodes of "Ultimate Spider-Man" air Sundays at 11:00 a.m., ET/PT on Marvel Universe on Disney XD.
