Kickstartin': Baseball Horror Comic 'Sullivan's Sluggers' Gets a Trailer

The latest project from the Gladstone's School for Conquerors creator Mark Andrew Smith and Orc Stain creator James Stokoe mixes America's favorite pasttime and flesh-eating monsters.

The Kickstarter campaign for the project has a little over a week left, and it's well over its initial $6000 goal, but you can still back Sullivan's Sluggers, which is getting a limited, exclusive release through Kickstarter.

Stokoe's wildly inventive, fleshy art adorns the book on Smith's high-concept script involving a team of down-on-their-luck minor league baseball players accepting an invitation to take on a small town team, only for the sun to go down and the opposing players to turn into people eaters.

Here's the synopsis in full:

Long past their former glory, the minor league Sluggers get an invitation to play a baseball game in a cursed small town. After the 7th inning stretch, the sun goes down, and the dysfunctional teammates find themselves fighting for their lives against a town of flesh-eating monsters!

Now, it's up to coach Casey Sullivan to help his team escape from being the next dish in the town's terrifying feeding frenzy!

Eisner & Harvey Award-winning graphic novel author Mark Andrew Smith joins forces with Eisner nominated illustrator James Stokoe for a gripping roller coaster of a graphic novel, packed with shocks, gore, and screamingly outrageous humor, when America's Favorite Past Time becomes one team's ultimate nightmare!

Based on how much money the book has collected, it looks like a combination of the attached talent and the exclusivity of the project have pushed it easily past its goal. Smith and Stokoe should be commended for such a savvy approach to getting their collaboration backed and out there in front of an audience.
