Watchmen News From Kapow! Con: A Possible Moloch Book, And Steranko To “Cover” Rorschach

Just a few intriguing bits of “Before Watchmen” news coming out of ┬áLondon’s Kapow! Con this weekend:

At DC’s “Before Watchmen” panel this weekend, Co-Publisher Dan DiDio announced that legendary comic book artist Steranko will be drawing the first “Rorschach” variant cover. “To say that we’re excited would be an understatement, to say that we’re nervous would also be an understatement, but we’re gonna let the work speak for itself.”

Steranko’s career in comics has been marked by ground-breaking art on books like “Captain America” and “Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Incorporating fine art styles such as surrealism and collage, his work has had a major influence on the aesthetics of the comic book medium.

Also at the Kapow! Con panel, DiDio teased a possible Moloch “Watchmen” spin-off comic: “Moloch is such a strong character, you wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up in his own book at some time.” The supervillain is an important Watchmen character, though not perhaps in the immediate pantheon of characters one would consider for their own series, and it makes you wonder how broad in scope and extensive DC’s plans are for the “Before Watchmen” project and beyond.
