Instagram To Be Sold To Facebook For..."One BILLION Dollars"

The big story is that Facebook intends to buy iPhone photo app Instagram -- so why was "Dr Evil" trending on Twitter? Check out that price tag, one (pinky to lips) billion dollars. But don't peg Mark Zuckerberg as an evil genius just yet...just a shrewd businessman.

Zuckerberg posted on Facebook today:

"For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests."

Instagram has developed a loyal user base of over 30 million -- 30 million+ freespirited users happily giving their photos hip filters and sharing them with their friends. How are they reacting to the impending marriage of online icons? Some notes left on the Instagram blog's announcement post seemed to indicate a fear of their fave photo app losing its identity. "I’m honestly quite nervous on how everything will turn out :/" writes one user.

As if anticipating these fears, Zuckerberg insisted in his post that Instagram would be allowed to grow "independently" from FB, "keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook."

According to Forbes, Facebook will pay for Instagram with sharks with frickin' laser-beams strapped to their heads, cash and Facebook shares.
