FUNimation Goes Mobile With New Streaming App

The publisher announces a tiered mobile app for iOS and Google.

The app, coming to the iPhone, iPod Touch (no mention of iPads?), and Android devices will come in two flavors: the free version will include clips, trailers, and introductory episodes to shows in the FUNimation catalog, but will also have banner ads and commercials.

If that's not your thing, for a one-time $9.99, you can get the full app with access to "thousands of hours of anime including complete series." The paid app is banner ad-free, but still has commercials. If you're part of FUNimation's Elite Video Subscription program, you can do away with the commercials to and get exclusive content, but that will run you $7.95 a month.

No word on if the app will also contain the publisher's live-action catalog as well or what this might mean for the extensive anime library FUNimation streams through Netflix and Hulu.
