Battle Arena Otaku Fight! Fight! Ed Alric vs. Kenshiro, Japanese Spider-Man vs. Ultraman

This is MTV Geek's Battle Arena Otaku Fight! Fight! A tournament-style, knock-down, drag-out, free-for-all, battle royale featuring your favorite anime, manga and Japanese pop-culture characters! Each arena match-up will be posted and voted on by you, the MTV Geek reader, and each winner will advance closer and closer to becoming the supreme reigning champion of the Battle Arena Otaku! Who will take the top spot? Sailor Moon? Godzilla? Hello Kitty? There's only way to find out…FIGHT! FIGHT!

In this matchup: two characters using ancient arcane powers for good; in our other contest, we have one hero who learned that with great power comes great responsibility while another learned that with great size comes greater power (and both get to mix it up with giant monsters).

This matchup could be a really close one. Fan-favorite (heck, one of our personal favorites) Edward Alric of Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the more compellingly complex characters from modern shonen manga and anime, attempting to use his alchemical might to restore his and his younger brother Al's bodies. Their story is one of sin, redemption, and ultimately, loyalty. On the flip side, there's Fist of the North Star lead Kenshiro, or Ken. He makes people explode with his hands, so there's that.

Seriously, Ken's story is one about the dangers of ultimate, unfettered power in blighted wasteland at the end of the world. While his story isn't as deep or as rich as Ed's, it's still compelling, bloody stuff. And he's got a sweet jacket.

Then there's 70's relic Japanese Spider-Man, which took all of the superheroics of the Marvel comics and gave them a tokusatsu gloss, complete with giant monsters, a spider-mecha over the span of 41 glorious episodes. By contrast, Ultraman never had a giant robot to pilot: when he was wrecking evil alien monsters, it was all-Ultraman, all the time. And unlike the Japanese incarnation of Spider-Man, it feels like Ultraman has never gone away, with some incarnation of the character or his descendants on the air since 1966, making TV safe from rubber monsters.

So which will it be: the Japanese import of New York's favorite man-arachnid? Or the long-lived homegrown hero? You decide!
