Battle Arena Otaku Fight! Fight! Astro Boy vs. Vash the Stampede, Joe Asakura vs. Captain Harlock

This is MTV Geek's Battle Arena Otaku Fight! Fight! A tournament-style, knock-down, drag-out, free-for-all, battle royale featuring your favorite anime, manga and Japanese pop-culture characters! Each arena match-up will be posted and voted on by you, the MTV Geek reader, and each winner will advance closer and closer to becoming the supreme reigning champion of the Battle Arena Otaku! Who will take the top spot? Sailor Moon? Godzilla? Hello Kitty? There's only way to find out…FIGHT! FIGHT!

Two living machines who refuse to become deadly weapons and two galaxy-faring heroes of classic animation!

In this corner, we've got the immortal Tezuka's Astro Boy, hero to the world and one of the gentlest treatments of the old sci-fi conundrum of "is he man or mecha?" With his short pants, rocket boots, and tri-pointed hair, he's battled giant machines and monsters for justice without ever becoming a weapon himself, and Urusawa's Pluto, riffing on an older Tezuka Astro Boy tale gives this character an extra note of poignancy in the new millennium. His opponent is the character dubbed "The Six Billion Double Dollar Man," and "The Humanoid Typhon," Vash the Stampede of Trigun. Last year saw the U.S. release of his first feature film since the completion of his anime back in the 90's and as ever it was about the same thing: Vash attempting to save the day without drawing his gun while spreading love and peace.

Then there are our two heroes who aren't afraid to mess someone up if need be. Gatchaman (I don't need to go through all the names this series has gone under) hero Joe Asakura is the winged second-in-command to the Gatchaman force, and is happy to dole out some two-fisted justice with his knuckles or behind the flight stick of a ship. Then there's Leiji Matsumoto's creation, Captain Harlock, the one-eyed, scarred space pirate whose soul yearns for more than plunder far into humanity's galaxy-faring future.

It's a couple of sci-fi matchups and you get to choose the winners!
