DVD Review: 'Adventure Time: It Came From the Nightosphere'

The second Adventure Time release brings together 16 more episodes across the show's three seasons. I there enough here to grab the attention of hardcore Finn and Jake fans?

Let me start by saying that if you've already bought these episodes through a service like iTunes or Amazon, there's not a whole lot extra here beyond a series of stills with info about several of the side characters called "Little Did You Know." Also, and this might not bother many or most of you, it's a standard def release, meaning you're not getting the optimal visual presentation for the eye-popping series. The image isn't stretched or terrible in any way, but the colors are slightly muted and the visuals are slightly soft.

Beyond that, it's like getting a smorgasbord of Adventure Time episodes that you either know and like or probably wanted to see. The episode that gives the disc its title is the real highlight here, introducing Marceline's soul-sucking, fry stealing father while giving us a little more backstory on the fan favorite vampire queen. The zombie-riddled "Slumber Party Panic" and murder mystery "The Creeps" are a couple of other standouts among the 16 episodes here, although there's no real overall theme to the set and it's better appreciated as a sampling of the show's highlights.

Again, this is great as an inexpensive fix if you haven't already bought the episodes through a download service, but if you want a complete package, you might want to wait until full seasons get a DVD and/or Blu-ray release sometime in the future.

Adventure Time: It Came From the Nightosphere is available now.
