Welcome to our time-traveling, space-warping round up of all the news we could find about the world’s most popular Timelord, Doctor Who. And there’s a ton of news to get through because, remember: this article is bigger on the inside.
ITEM! Gallifrey 23 Welcomes 3000 Who Fans
Turns out, there’s a lot of Doctor Who fans! Or at least, enough to keep an unofficial con going, as well as the official one that’s coming up in a few short months. Gallifrey One’s “Network 23” sounds like it was a blast, with panels, games, and more. You can read a full report from an attendee, and check out a little more news from the Con below…
ITEM! Inspector Spacetime, But For Real
Remember Inspector Spacetime, the parody of Doctor Who the characters on Community love/hate to watch? We’ve only seen about 45 seconds of the show within a show, but the main actor is already Kickstarter-ing a web series version. The series had its “premier” at Gallifrey One, when lead actor Travis Richey read the “first” episode of the proposed series. Interestingly, he’s doing this without Dan Harmon, creator of Community and NBC. He just really wants to do it. We kind of want him to do it, too.
ITEM! Real Doctor Who Shooting Begins With Ponds
Okay, enough of these unofficial cons, and Who parodies: the real deal started filming new episodes this week, and it looks like Amy and Rory Pond are back. Oh, also? Maybe Rory’s Dad is in the mix? Maybe? Nothing too gobsmacking yet, though we’re prepping our gobs for smacking anyway.
POND! Karen Gillan To Headline Official Con
It feels like we’re a little stuck in a time loop this week, but just go with it: Karen Gillan – Amy Pond on the show – will be headlining the official Doctor Who Con this year, along with Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill, and Steven Moffat. I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say that whoever the new Companion is will be a surprise guest, announced at the panel where everyone is attending. Also, we’re kind of hoping is Mark Sheppard, who you may know as Canton Everett Delaware III, as he’ll be there anyway, and he is a delight.
EXTERMIN-KNIT! Knit Dalek Is Pun-riffic
We couldn’t really come up with a better joke than the creator of this adorable knit Dalek did, so we didn’t even try. Head over to their site to find out how they did it, though be warned that they’ll refuse to tell you their plans unless you insist that you’re the Doctor:
SONG! River’s Song Gets Some Lyrics
We’ll leave you with songwriter Ally Rhodes’ tribute to one of the more enigmatic characters on on Doctor Who, River Song:
