Just What Is The Upcoming 'Autocracy' Event Going Down In IDW's 'Transformers'

IDW sends out a simple image with the word "Autocracy" on it and the promise to reveal more details next week.

What we have here, folks, is a tease about an announcement, a "pre-nouncement" if you will (and you shouldn't because that's not right, strictly grammatically speaking). This morning, IDW PR sent out the image to the right with the promise of more info on January 18th. What's "Autocracy" and what does it have to do with the Transformers?

Well, it must certainly have a connection to the recent leadership shakeups that have seen Optimus Prime meet his maker/manufacturer (again) while splitting the Autobots into two factions, with Bumblbee now leading the Autobots in Transformers: Robots in Disguise which begins this month while in Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye, Rodimus and the remaining Autobots travel to their home planet to find the mysterious Knights of Cybertron.

My best guess is that the whole schism is similar to the massive event that ran through the G.I. Joe books last year in the wake of Cobra Commander's death, with various factions within Cobra vying for leadership within the terrorist group. Maybe something similar is going on here on the Autobots side, although that still doesn't explain why the teaser image features an iPad. Could the series possibly be a digital exclusive?

We'll find out more when IDW drops news about "Autocracy" January 18th.
