SCRCELM: Solar-Charged Remote Control Lawn Mower

Even if you have a ride-on lawn mower on which you can kick back and enjoy a frothy brew and some tunes yard work is never that much fun. In an attempt to reach that special place we hold in our hearts for RC vehicles, tinkerer Robert Smith has created the homeowner's ultimate toy – a solar-charged remote control electric lawn mower.

Called SCRCELM for short, Smith's R/C lawn mower uses parts from an electric wheel chair and, as I'm sure you've guessed, several components from a standard Black & Decker lawn mower. The project seems like quite the undertaking and Smith has created a thirteen-part series of videos outlining the build – the first of which can be seen below.

If you think you have what it takes to throw one of these bad boys together you can head over to Smith's website and grab all of the necessary schematics, diagrams and code. There you will also find a full parts list that notes where everything can be purchased, he even gives recommendations on what tools may be necessary to complete the project.
