New iPhone Cases Made Of Genuine 7" Vinyl Records From The Raconteurs And The White Stripes! (video)

I'll be honest, my inbox is constantly being bombarded by e-mails telling me about the newest iPhone cases around and, unless it flies or shoots fire out of the top, I'm usually not that interested. However, every once in awhile I find one that literally makes me jump up and down like a little school girl who just found out she's getting pony for her birthday. I'm a nerd, that's what I do when I like something.

This time it's new line of cases from Griffin Technology and the folks at Third Man Records. What makes them so special? Well, they're made out of genuine, working 7” vinyl records from bands The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. How cool is that?

When I say working, what I actually mean is they used to work. Now that they've been chopped up to become part of an iPhone 4S case you probably wont be able to spin these on turntable very easily. But, that doesn't change the fact that I find them to be pretty damn cool.

The cases come in three flavors – white, yellow and black – and all feature a genuine 7” vinyl record precision-cut to act as the protective back side of the case. The standard cases feature a record sporting the Third Man Records logo, but things get really interesting with the “Interchangeable iPhone Record Insert” pack. This is where we'll find three separate vinyl cutouts that can be swapped at random, one of which is a first pressing of The Raconteurs “Steady As She Goes” single.

Here's what the “Interchangeable iPhone Record Insert” will include...

- 1 white vinyl record back, cut from The White Stripes’ “Candy Cane Children” single.

- 1 black vinyl record back, cut from The Raconteurs’ “Steady, As She Goes” single, from their first album, Broken Boy Soldiers. These Raconteurs inserts represent the first pressing of this single, soon to be available as a reissue from Third Man.

- 1 yellow vinyl record back, cut from The Dead Weather single “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” from their first album, Horehound.

If you're a fan of Jack White or just a music buff in general these cases provide a blend of modern technology and retro flair you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else. The standard Third Man 45 iPhone Cases cost about $30 and the additional inserts will set you back about $20. Both items can be found at, or at the brick-and-mortar Third Man Records store in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
