Check Out Valiant's New X-O Manowar!

Comics publisher Valiant has had its ups and downs, but the new Valiant is launching itself and giving you a first look with its Free Comic Book Day release! It won’t happen for a few months yet, but the company has announced that this May 5 they’ll be releasing a free comic to show what they’ll be publishing in the future.

“X-O Manowar! Bloodshot! Harbinger! Some of the best-selling heroes of all time return this Free Comic Book Day, just as all-new #1 issues of Valiant Comics begin arriving in stores!” Valiant announced in an official press release.

The company went on to say what we can expect. “Featuring a cover of the brand new X-O Manowar by superstar artist Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, this sneak peek into Valiant’s extraordinary first year comes packed with never-before-seen stories, character redesigns, and interviews with Valiant’s team of visionary creators.”

"Free Comic Book Day is just the beginning," Valiant Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani tells us. "For anyone who loves comics and top-notch storytelling, the return of the Valiant Universe will be an event not to be missed."

For those not keeping up with company finances and logistics, it might be news to know that Valiant Comics had some troubles recently. The company, which had been bought by Acclaim, faced problems when Acclaim went under in 2005. Valiant had nothing to do with Acclaim’s money difficulties, but the connection between the two spelled trouble. However, Valiant Entertainment acquired the rights to Valiant Comics in 2007, and now the company is doing what it can to get Valiant Comics back on track. The Free Comic Book Day release won’t be the only release from Valiant this May, and you can expect plenty more comics coming from the character-driven company.

"We couldn't be happier to be partnering with comics retailers, Diamond and ComicsPro for Free Comic Book Day 2012, the most exciting day in comics," Publisher Fred Pierce said in a statement. "In 2012, fans and retailers can expect some of the best books in all of comics to be shipping monthly from Valiant."
