We’ve known for quite some time that Rovio planned on expanding the Angry Birds universe to books and possibly movies. Now, Diamond has been granted exclusive distribution rights to the first three Angry Birds books - one of which will show you great ways to cook up those stolen eggs.
“We’re extremely pleased about our new partnership with Rovio and look forward to expanding the market for Rovio’s new line of books," said Bill Schanes, Diamond’s VP-Purchasing. "The initial title releases are full of the wit and creativity that makes Angry Birds so fun and exciting."
“We’re very excited about our new line of Angry Birds books and we think fans worldwide will love them, too,” said Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio’s Mighty Eagle & CMO. “Thanks to Diamond, our distinctive Angry Birds brand has found a nice home to roost for distribution of its new book line.”
I was a little surprised to find out the Angry Birds’ first book wouldn’t be a comic, or a short story, or any kind of book you may be thinking it is. In fact, it’s actually a recipe book… I know, I wasn’t expecting that either, but it does sound interesting.
As you know those devilish green pigs are constantly stealing eggs from the ferocious avian horde, but what are they doing with them? Angry Birds Bad Piggies Egg Recipes (Hardcover, 104 pages; $14.99) will answer that question with 40 unique recipes for everything ranging from omelets to quiche.
The next two Angry Birds books will allow fans of the lovable Birds the chance to get a little creative. Each book will come with 100+ unfinished drawings that can be finished, colored in or embellished at will. The Angry Birds: The Big Red Doodle Book (Softcover, 96 pages; $9.99) will feature the birds and pigs in memorable locales from the popular mobile game while Angry Birds: Big Green Doodle Book (Softcover, 96 pages; $9.99) finds the birds on vacation in a tropical paradise.
Rovio and Diamond will be releasing more Angry Birds books throughout 2012 and we’ll be sure to keep you up to speed on the Angry Birds happenings.
