Get ready to sink your teeth into a new True Blood comic book series!

Not only are evil Martians getting a regular series at IDW, Charlane Harris's sexed-up vampires, witches, werewolves, and fairies are getting their own monthly book starting next year. That means between this announcement and Dynamite's Game of Thrones series, HBO has doubled its comic presence in the last year. Now, if only someone could greenlight that Boardwalk Empire series featuring Chalky White that we all want.

"Sookeh." You'll have to just read it aloud that way to get the completely broad southern-fried accent adopted by actor Bill Moyer to get it just right.

Here's IDW's pitching the series:

“The comics are a great way to continue telling True Blood stories off screen,” said show creator, Alan Ball. “With this new ongoing series, Truebies will be able to find a new comic in stores every month. We’ll also have even more room to create in-depth drama and further explore the world of Bon Temps.”

Added IDW chief operations officer, Greg Goldstein, “IDW could not be happier than to move to this next step with our HBO partners. Since we originally launched TRUE BLOOD comics in 2010, fans have been asking for an ongoing series, and we’re happy to be able to work with HBO and offer it.”

Currently, no creative teams have been announced or attached,

The True Blood ongoing comic will begin in the spring of 2012.
