Locke And Key: The Game Will Haunt Your Table in 2012!

Locke & Key: The Game is headed your way in 2012 from Cryptozoic Entertainment

Move over Arkham Horror and Mansions of Madness, there’s a new Mythos board game in town. IDW Publishing has formally announced their partnership with Cryptozoic Entertainment to bring a Locke & Key themed board game to store shelves.

Locke & Key: The Game will go toe-to-toe with a crowded market of Mythos-themed games early next year. Industry veterans Fantasy Flight and Steve Jackson already provide a steady diet of Lovecraftian horror games (one is more tongue-in-cheek than the other, I’ll let you guess which), but the comic book license should be a big help for Cryptozoic in trying to generate some market separation here.

The game design heads at Cryptozoic are no strangers to comic book horror, either. One of their first games after diving into the board game market earlier this year was a The Walking Dead themed game.

Creator Gabriel Rodriguez announced the Locke & Key game via Twitter in late September, but it’s existence was not publicized by IDW or Cryptozoic until now. While the game was nowhere to be found at New York Comic Con, the design is far enough along that Cryptozoic is already releasing box art and component lists. We’ll be taking an early look at the game here at MTV Geek once production samples arrive at the Cryptozoic offices, so stay tuned for more info on this one.
