Mark Hamill Says "Goodbye" To The Joker...Which Is News To Bruce Timm!

If you're a Nineties Kid, this is the version of The Joker you might be most familiar with!

Confirming what has long been rumored, Mark Hamill went on Twitter today to announce that he is no longer voicing one of his most famous characters next to Luke Skywalker, The Joker:

This might to be news to Hamill's longtime collaborator on Batman: The Animated Series, Bruce Timm. When The Nerdist's Jonah Ray put the question to Timm at New York Comic Con, he answered that he thought the rumors were "misconstrued" --

"I think it's just a rumor. I mean, he might have said something that was misconstrued or something, but...he loves playing the Joker."

So Hamill's work as the Clown Prince Of Crime in the just-released Batman: Arkham City might be the last time we get to hear him record that famous cackling voice...and it was a return to the character that he was initially very reluctant to do. In a May interview with MTV, the actor said it was the inclusion of Batman: The Animated series staple Kevin Conroy as Batman that drew him back in:

"When they said, 'We want you to come back [to the role of The Joker] and do 'Arkham,'' I said the same; 'I left on a high note, I don't think we could ever top that.' But they said, 'We got Paul Dini,' who was my favourite ever Joker writer, 'and Kevin Conroy,' who I love," the actor explained. "This was a real reunion and a very pleasant experience. So of course I relented, but I had no idea it would have the impact it did."
