‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ To Fight Evil, Get Tattoo in New Animated Series

Archie Comics teams up with Moonscope Studios to give the ageless Teenage Witch a visual and conceptual rethink.

Archie has announced that they’re giving Sabrina The Teenage Witch a go at an animated series in a partnership with Moonscope, the studio behind the anime-styled Code Lyoko and Wild Grinders series. The announcement goes on to say that the move was made to “bring her in line with a more modern and teen-centric sensibility.” And if these images are any indication, that means glowing tats and mechanical brooms.

The publisher’s actually pretty up front at the top of the release about grabbing influences from teen fiction like Twilight, Harry Potter, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and reading between the lines that means the publisher is looking to go a little darker with their interpretation of the character. The release also promises that Sabrina will be facing off against monsters and the supernatural along with “the trials and tribulations all teens come across.” I think they mean boys.

Besides the new “Action Sabrina” look above, Archie has also provided an image of her in her civvies:

At the bottom of the release, the Moonscope CEO gushes a bit about working on Sabrina and also mentions how excited they are for a new Little Archies animated series. I can’t seem to immediately hunt up any info on this one, but that was kind of a neat little thing to sneak into the announcement.

No information on when the new series will air, but we’ll let you know as more news develops.
