Star Trek Meets The Legion of Superheroes In October

You can go ahead and start getting that Braniac/Spock slashfic ready now.

In a pitch that's seven centuries to the left and one dimension over, IDW and DC are teaming up for a crossover between the Star Trek and Legion of Superheroes in the appropriately titled Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes this October, written by Christopher Roberson with art by Jeffrey and Phillip Moy. The six-issue mini will team up the original crew of the Enterprise with the "Great Darkness Saga"-era Legion against a massive threat to the Galaxy that unites some of the baddies from both franchises for what IDW is calling a "galaxy-spanning adventure."

The most interesting thing about this announcement to me is that IDW seems to be doing all of the heavy lifting with the mini, sending out the press blast and presumably all of the marketing for the book (although I could be wrong and ads for it could show up in August and September's DC books). I'm wondering if this is primarily an IDW show since Star Trek carries more weight that LOSH, and there's probably not much of a win in it for DC to promote a book that will presumably sell itself.

Here's the official synopsis:

STAR TREK/LEGION OF SUPERHEROES tells the tale of the original crew of the Starship Enterprise, who beam down to a planet only to discover that the planet isn’t their intended destination, or even in the right universe. At the same time, a group of “Great Darkness Saga” Legionnaires inside a time sphere find themselves cast into the 23rd century, but it’s not the 23rd century as they know it, either. STAR TREK/LEGION OF SUPERHEROES is a galaxy-spanning adventure that draws both teams together to face a menace that includes Khunds, Klingons, Borg, and other threats that aren’t quite as they should be. The egalitarian United Planets in one universe and a United Federation of Planets in another is now the Imperial Planets of Terra, a dark empire focused on war and conquest, and that’s just the beginning for this special series.

Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes hits shelves beginning this October.
