Darkness-wielding anithero Jackie Estacado causes some mayhem at a carnival in these latest shots from the upcoming game.
With its October 4th release date bearing down upon us, new screens from 2K Games’ sequel to 2007 The Darkness have cropped up. The images show off more of mob hit man turned supernaturally-powered killer wreaking havoc in what appears to be a carnival against members of the Brotherhood: heavily-armed goons leaking supernatural light from their faces who want to seize Jackie’s power for themselves.
The new game, developed by Digital Extremes (Unreal Tournament and the upcoming Star Trek game for consoles), evolves the mechanics from the first game, allowing “quad wielding” has players using both their guns and their Darkness powers simultaneously–many times in combo maneuvers to dispatch enemies in nasty new ways. It also means a variety of execution moves using the Darklings will be available to players willing to experiment with some of the game’s controls.
Here’s the official release from the dev:
It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Estacado crime family, used Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. Jackie continues to have haunting visions of his beloved Jenny since her death. He’s tried to cope by bottling up his supernatural power, and now Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of Darkness itself.
This quest brings Jackie into confrontation with Viktor, a mysterious figure who knows what The Darkness is and wants the power for himself. Viktor is the head of a mysterious organization known as The Brotherhood, an ancient order formed hundreds of years ago for the sole purpose of destroying and/or controling The Darkness once and for all.
