Panini HRX: The World's First Video Trading Cards!

Trading cards have been around forever. Whether you’re a football, hockey, baseball or basketball fanatic you can find a package of sports trading cards at almost any store you go to. Even the Target store down the street from my house has a whole aisle dedicated to trading cards and Panini is changing the face of these cards forever by adding an “HD quality” video screen!

The Panini HRX (Highlight Reel Xperience) trading cards will tip-off in June with four of Basketball’s top athletes (Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, John Wall and slam-dunk champion Blake Griffin) plastered across them.

Each card will loop up to 20 minutes of behind-the-scenes and highlight footage of the players. The cards feature 2GBs of internal storage and fans can even add their own videos via USB -- I can see clips of Star Wars lightsaber action already.

Obviously, a trading card with a video screen is going to need some juice to run, so each card has a built-in battery that can be recharged via USB much like your iPod or recent digital camera. A limited number of select video trading cards will even be autographed by players and, those specific cards will play video of the actual signing -- an awesome way to prove authenticity.

If you’re looking to pick one of these revolutionary trading cards up you don’t have to wait much longer. We won’t be able to buy packs of just HRX cards but, later this month fans will be able to snag Panini’s new 5-card Totally Certified packages. If you want a video trading card these are the packs to buy.
