Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten announced that the new Haruhi Suzumiya light novel (the rough equivalent of a Young Adult novel in the west) by Nagaru Tanigawa , "Suzumiya Haruhi no Ky?gaku", will have a record setting first print run of over 500,000! The novel ships on May 25th in two 300-page installments, which combined totals an over 1 million initial print run for the launch. The first run will bundle Tanigawa's first short story, Rainy Day, which stars Kyon's middle school days. The regular editions will drop on June 15th.
To date, over 16.5 million copies of the Haruhi Suzumiya series have been published, inclusive of the light novels and manga adaptations.
North American publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish the 5th light novel, The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya, in June.
