William Shatner Gets The Heavy Metal Treatment

When I think Star Trek's Bill Shatner, I think mellow tunes such as "Mr. Tamborine Man" and "Rocket Man" -- not heavy metal. But with an upcoming heavy metal album, Seeking Major Tom, plus years of sci-fi badassery, I can't think of a more deserving person to receive the "Honorary Headbanger Award" at next month's Revolver Awards.

The 80-year-old former Captain Kirk is collaborating with rock/metal artists such as Mike Inez from Alice in Chains, Zakk Wylde from the Ozzy Osbourne band and Black Label Society, and Ian Paice and Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for Seeking Major Tom. The album, slated for a late 2011 release from Cleopatra Records, will feature covers of such songs as "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "She Blinded Me With Science" -- not quite heavy metal, in my opinion, though I'm sure the fact that The Shat is recording them will give them a little bit of extra gravity.
