Geek News alert -- cult hit Firefly will be returning to basic cable. EW's Inside TV reported today that the Science Channel has aquired the rights to Firefly and will air the complete series -- including special extras! This is the first time Firefly has aired on a fully distributed basic cable channel since 2008 on the USA Network.
Further, Nathan Fillion told EW that not only would he be open to reprising the role of Mal again, but if he had the money he'd produce Firefly itself:
"Yes. Yes. I would examine very closely Fox’s reasoning — I’m a little gun-shy. If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it own my own, and distribute it on the Internet."
Firefly makes its Science Channel debut on March 6 at 8 p.m. with the two hour pilot, with the first episode airing right after at 10 p.m. Then Firefly episodes will air every Sunday, in order and in HD.
