Crossovers We Want To See: R.E.B.E.L.S./Guardians Of The Galaxy

Welcome to Crossovers We Want to See, a fairly self-explanatory recurring feature in which we pitch the meeting of a pair of characters or teams from different comic companies. Playing editor, we'll dream up writer and artist combinations and basic story points.

R.E.B.E.L.S. & Guardians of the Galaxy: No One Can Hear You

Written by: Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning

Drawn by: Andy Clarke

Story: Thanks to lack of atmosphere in space, no one can hear you scream. Technically, that means you can't see big, huge explosions either, but expect lots of fireworks when Marvel and DC's quirkier space-fairing teams cross space swords when The Guardians of the Galaxy crossover with R.E.B.E.L.S.

While traveling through the spaceways looking for new clients to add to their universal protection business, the R.E.B.E.L.S.--consisting of leader Vril Dox, Strata, Wildstar, Amon Hakk, Captain Comet, Starfire and others—end up running into none other than Marvel's world devourer himself, Galactus. Not wanting to let some purple and pink-wearing giant take a potential client from him, Dox sees defending these people as both protecting an investment and good advertising for his business. Meanwhile, the Guardians hear word of Galactus' most recent attack and send members like Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Moondragon, Jack Flag, Gamorra and the rest launch a defense. The two teams butt heads, especially the two tactical geniuses Rocket and Dox, but eventually they come up with a down and dirty plan to deal with the World Devourer that would make the Fantastic Four blush.

Pretty much anything can happen in space. Green Lantern and Silver Surfer met there as did Galactus and the New Gods, so why not our favorite space teams on both sides of the great comic divide? Both teams are filled with such interesting and varied characters that would play beautifully off one another thanks to Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning who have proven that they can handle huge casts of characters who also happen to be running around space, just like in this week's Thanos Imperative #6. Meanwhile, original R.E.B.E.L.S. Penciler Andy Clarke blew us away with his crisp pencils and should definitely come back for this eventual crossover. R.E.B.E.L.S. #22 hits this week too by the very capable team of Tony Bedard and Claude St. Aubin!
